St. Luke is considered the patron saint of physicians, surgeons and painters, among other professions. He was a physician and evangelist of the third Gospel, in the first century, companion of St. Paul, who also wrote the Acts of the Apostles. He was born in Antioch and came from Gentile origin, not from the Jewish people.
