Thank you Lord for having called me

Name: Rafael Neftalí Ruiz Mendoza
Age:
Situation: Priest
Origin: Santa Ana, El Salvador
Study: Degree in Theology from the University of Navarra, Pamplona, Spain.

The experience and academic training at the University of Navarra marked my life.

"And he went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he wanted, and they came to him. And He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach" (Mark 3:13-14).

With these words from the Gospel I can summarize what has been my experience for many years. I grew up in a family of Christian values and therefore in an environment conducive to cultivating a vocation such as this that the Lord has given me.

Back in 2007, when I was thinking about my future, what career to choose at the university, I felt a restlessness that was impossible to avoid. The example of some priests I knew, and the fact that I was actively involved in parish life, was the means God used to call me.

So it was that in 2008, without thinking about it so much, I entered the seminary of my diocese.

Since then, a great adventure began.

As the years of training went by, I fell more and more in love with my vocation.

When, in January 2010, my rector proposed that I continue my formation at the Bidasoa International Seminary, it was for me a definite sign from God that he was calling me. From September 2010 to June 2015 were truly wonderful years. The experience lived in Bidasoa, and the academic formation at the University of Navarra, deeply marked my life.

On April 18, 2015, I was ordained a deacon in Pamplona.

At the end of the course, I returned happily to my Diocese.

On December 19 of that same year I was ordained to the priesthood. That was nearly five years ago".

"The only word that comes from my heart is thank you!

Thank you, Lord, for having called me. And thank you to those who, with their efforts and renunciations, make possible the formation of many priests."
