"I am Joel, a seminarian studying in Rome for the Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Palai. My native place is Kerala, a state in southwestern India.
God has implanted in me the desire to be with him at the Altar since my childhood. Although at some point I was a bit perplexed in choosing this vocation, I have never lost sleep. And, in fact, God has taken me out of my home and that is why I joined our Diocesan Minor Seminary in 2009. Jesus has never left me alone in priestly formation and in fact, His presence makes me stay in the seminary. I have now completed the first ten years of my priestly formation and I have to study one more year to finish my Theology studies.
Rome was always the place of my dreams. When my bishop asked me to go to Rome for my theology studies, it felt like a blessing. Although the first days here were a bit challenging, now I really enjoy my life and try to make it fruitful. Italian at the beginning for me was really a hard nut to crack, but now I not only like Italian but I am also passionate about learning it more and more every day. Besides, I have many friends from all over the world that I consider really invaluable. Studying theology at the Pontifical University of Santa Croce is an enriching experience as we have an efficient set of professors who not only teach students but also make them reflect.
I am well aware that being a priest in the 21st century is really demanding and I hope I can do my best with God's grace."
"I want to acknowledge their unique role in my priestly formation as my benefactors. I am quite sure that your prayers and financial support is what helps me to continue to pursue my dream.
I have nothing to return other than my sincere prayers and I am quite sure that God will reward you a hundredfold and be with you as an unwavering support in all your endeavors."
