"I am David Harvey Chipeta, a seminarian in the Diocese of Karonga, on the shores of Lake Malawi, in the north of the country. Until the end of the 19th century, the city was a known slave trading place for the Arabs, whose presence is still the majority in the region.
I started my journey more than 8 years ago. I started to feel the call since I was 12 years old.
When we were little, our father would gather us together to ask us what we wanted to do when we grew up. Each one of us had to answer what we felt. I would always ask, what is it to be a secret? And my father would say you have to be studious and work hard and know more languages because priests preach in different places in different languages. I entered the minor seminary and my father always encouraged me to work hard because in this calling lazy people are not accepted. By the grace of God I studied philosophy in Tanzania. The studies there were in English. It was very easy to learn it. Then my Bishop sent me to Spain to finish my formation with theology studies. The first days were not easy because there was Covid which prevented me from arriving on time. I arrived when my classmates were in the middle of the first semester. Thank God now I am proud that I can write and understand the language, which was my big obstacle in my first years. Now I am finishing the fifth year. I pray that God will always be with me and that He will not leave me alone; without Him I cannot do it.
