"The end is to seek the good of my diocese and of many people who need our help."

Name: Carlos Iván Campos Arévalo.
Age: 33 years old.
Situation: Priest.
Origin: El Salvador.
Study: Canon Law at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome.

"I grew up in the city of Ahuachapán, El Salvador, with seven siblings. When I finished elementary school I moved to the capital, where I attended high school and joined the pastoral work in the parish "San José de Las Flores".

During these years of collaboration in parish activities, the idea of consecrated life as a priest began to mature. "My big dream was to study public accounting at the University and then get married, but in 2011 I began to feel curious about wanting to know the consecrated life." "I never thought about it as a child, but it was something that was inside me." So he sought help and began to take the first steps toward entering the seminary.

In 2012 I went to the first vocational meeting of the Major Seminary with many fears, curiosity but then I repeated again and again. After months of reflection and doubts I was accepted into the Seminary. That day everything changed, I felt in my heart the need to respond to God's call. The answer changed my plans, now they were God's plans, no longer mine.

"I talked to my mom and told her about it and I remember her listening to me and she looked at me and said, "If that's going to make you happy, I'll be happy too."

He entered the Benjamin Barrera y Reyes Seminary to complete the propaedeutic year and a year later began philosophical and theological studies. "In 2016 the archbishop sent me to finish my studies in Rome, at the Pontifical International College Maria Mater Ecclesial." In 2019 he returned and was ordained a deacon in the Cathedral of San Salvador.

"Having a need for certain theological, philosophical and canon law sciences, my bishop asked me to return to pursue a Licentiate in Canon Law at the U. P. of Rome."

He feels "very grateful to all of you who allow me to have a scholarship, because the purpose is not to seek my personal good, but the good of my diocese and of many people who need our help".".
