Kenny Ang is 25 years old and is from Jakarta, Indonesia. Until recently, on Sundays, he could be seen playing the organ in the chapel of the University of Navarra Clinic.
He arrived in 2014 in Pamplona and, although his priestly vocation comes to him from a very young age, he explains that it was in Missouri (USA), at the age of 18, when he was fully aware of it.
At the time he was studying music at Missouri Western State University on a scholarship after completing his high school and piano degree. He lived at the Catholic Newman Center with other students from different faculties. "It was the first time I saw firsthand what it's like to live the priesthood 100 percent, 24 hours a day," he says.
There, a Colombian confessor helped him make the difficult decision: to change his music career for a vocation to the priesthood.
He completed two of the four-year degree program and returned to Indonesia. "At first my parents were surprised, but they were very happy for me and now that they see me happy they are very happy," he says.
After a few months of spiritual retreat and reflection, the Bishop of Surabaya sent him to the Bidasoa Seminary in Pamplona for formation. In 2020 he was ordained a priest and transferred to Rome to finish his studies at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. He is very grateful for all the help received from benefactors who have made his formation for the priesthood possible.
