I dream of being a good priest

Cao Nguyen Quang is a seminarian from the diocese of Hanoi in Vietnam. He is one of the first two Vietnamese seminarians to be trained in Pamplona.

"I dream of becoming a priest, I arrived in Pamplona six years ago. I started doing philosophy for two years, then theology for three years, and I finished my bachelor's degree in theology last year.

After high school, I returned to my country, however, my bishop, for the good and the need of the diocese, sent me to continue studying. That is why I am here now doing my bachelor's degree.

About my family and my religious formation, I was born in a small family, I have an older brother, he is already married and has two children. My father passed away three years ago.

From a very young age, my mother always taught me to pray before going to sleep and after getting up. They are simple prayers, a few ejaculatory prayers to ask the Lord for my family and those in need. And then, when I was a little older, she took me to mass and participated in the catechetical classes of my parish. Later, I joined the altar boys' group, learned to play the organ and helped the parish choir.

That is how faith grew little by little in my heart, and I do not remember since when my heart was kindled the desire to become a priest.

Thus I remember John 15:16: "You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain".

In my diocese, to enter the seminary, you have to do a civil career, so I studied electronic engineering in four years, and then I took the exam to enter the seminary. However, after passing the exam, my bishop offered me to study at the University of Navarra. So all the priestly formation I received is from Bidasoa."
