Vocation is a gift from God, which grew in me, like my physical stature.

Name: Álvaro Fabián Barreto Bonilla
Age: 30 years
Situation: Priest
Origin: Colombia
Studies: degree in Theology at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome.

He felt the call thanks to his parish priest

Alvaro Fabian Barreto always had a special bond with religious life, since he was very young he participated in the different pastoral activities of his parish. When he finished high school, he decided to enter the major seminary. The close ties he maintained with his parish priest and the nuns nurtured his vocation.

"I listened to them talk about vocation but above all I saw their testimony of a simple and coherent life; hence when I finished my studies I decided to embark on the adventure of the Seminary." "I asked the Lord to form me and that I would be humble enough to allow myself to be formed."

After his diaconate ordination in 2015 he was collaborating as a vocation promoter and professor at the major seminary until 2019 when his bishop offered him to study liturgical theology at the University of the Holy Cross.

"This year has been a year of beautiful experiences and I have been able to learn a great deal from such meritorious professors so that I can return to my diocese and continue in the formation of future priests and of the faithful that the Lord will entrust to me".

"I hope with all my heart to continue to count on your financial help to be able to continue my studies as well as your prayers so that the Lord will help me to be a good pastor; count on my prayers for you and your families as you will also continue to be in the intentions of the masses that I celebrate."

Supports a vocation anywhere in the world

full scholarship of 18,000 euros is the amount necessary for a candidate to live and study for one year at their university locations, whether in Rome or Pamplona. The neediest dioceses in the world require a full scholarship for their candidates. In many cases, the diocese covers part of this cost and a lesser amount is required, which is always indicated with the candidate's application.

What does a full scholarship consist of?

More than 800 bishops from all five continents request study grants for their candidates through scholarships. Thanks to benefactors like you, CARF meets most of the requests, but the needs are growing and we want all requests to be met.

In the graph you can see the composition of a full scholarship.
