I wanted to be a good Christian and I felt that the priesthood was not for me.

Jesús Eduardo Huerta Gaytán is a seminarian of the Diocese of Celaya, located in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. He was born in San Miguel de Allende and is the younger of two brothers.

"The priesthood has been something that has attracted my attention since I was a child, particularly because at home there was a lot of talk about a priest, who was the brother of my maternal grandfather. They always spoke good things about him, he was almost like a superhero.

As you may notice, my family has deep Christian values, however, I was not very fond of religious acts. My family and I drifted away from God, until little by little we regained interest.

As far as I was concerned, it was thanks to the altar boys' group that I began a more committed Christian life. It was at this time that the option for the seminary seemed plausible. I must confess that for some years I resisted the call I felt from the Lord. I wanted to be a good Christian and I felt that the priesthood was not for me.

The turning point of this situation was to have participated in some Ignatian exercises that led me to discover that my principle and foundation was God and that apart from Him I wanted nothing. I felt a great desire to give my life to serve my brothers and sisters, consecrating myself totally to God. It was a hard decision because I had to reject two very good scholarships offered by two of the best universities in Mexico. However, I do not regret it, because I know that I have gained a lot by entering the seminary.

I entered the diocesan seminary of my diocese in August 2013 and after 5 years of formation in my diocese, my formators together with my bishop chose to send me to conclude my theological formation at the University of Navarra and my priestly formation at the Bidasoa International Seminary, where I am currently.

My outlook has broadened as I have been able to meet people from all over the world who share my dreams and illusions. I have also been consolidating my option to give my life, I want to be the soft carpet on which others can walk, that my tiredness rests to those who need it most. It is time for people who seek to serve, to bring hope to places where it seems to have disappeared. It is time to give smiles and listen to those who wish to open their hearts, to give comfort and encourage that happiness is possible. It is time to bring the world to the only eternal happiness to which we aspire: God. I also want to be an apostle of Love who loves his brothers so much that he gives his whole being to help them to be better every day."

"From the bottom of my heart I thank you for your generosity to us. Definitely the work of love can only be carried out with love. It is precisely this charity that has made it possible for people like me, thirsty to serve, to carry out our studies outside our countries. Thank you for the support you have given me to be able to study at the University of Navarra and to live in the Colegio Mayor Bidasoa.

Aware of the above, I try to take advantage of this opportunity by giving the best of myself. I recognize their great work and sacrifice, for which I daily commend them in my prayers knowing that without their generosity and love for the Church this would be impossible."
