In order to understand the magnitude of his pontificate and his person, we must be familiar with the <strong>most important dates in the life of St. John Paul II<\/strong>The Pope's pontificate, those key moments that marked his path from his native Poland to the Holy See. His youth was forged between the Nazi occupation and the subsequent Soviet domination of Poland, experiences that profoundly shaped his character and his faith. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>July 7, 1916: <\/strong>Olga Wojty\u0142a,<strong> <\/strong>his older sister, died shortly after birth (before Karol was born).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>May 18, 1920:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/fundacioncarf.org\/san-juan-pablo-ii-y-su-fe-infinita\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/fundacioncarf.org\/san-juan-pablo-ii-y-su-fe-infinita\/\">Karol J\u00f3zef Wojty\u0142a born in Wadowice<\/a>a small town near Krakow, Poland.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>April 13, 1929<\/strong>Emilia Kaczorowska, his mother, dies when Karol is 8 years old. There he decides to ask the Virgin Mary to adopt him and take care of him as a mother.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>December 4, 1932<\/strong>Edmund Wojty\u0142a, the older brother and physician, died of scarlet fever. Karol was 12 years old. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>June 1938<\/strong>enrolled in the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the Jagiellonian University in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cracovia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Krakow<\/a>\u00a0to study Polish philology.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>February 18, 1941<\/strong>His father Karol Wojty\u0142a died when he was 20 years old.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>October 1942: he entered the clandestine seminary founded by Cardinal\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Adam_Stefan_Sapieha\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adam Stefan Sapieha<\/a>then Archbishop of Krakow.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>November 1, 1946:<\/strong> in a country recovering from the wounds of World War II, he was ordained a priest in the private chapel of the Archbishop of Krakow.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>July 4, 1958:<\/strong> appointed auxiliary bishop of Krakow by Pope Pius XII, becoming the youngest bishop in Poland.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>January 13, 1964:<\/strong> appointed archbishop of Krakow, assuming a leadership role at a time of great tension between the Church and the communist regime.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>June 26, 1967:<\/strong> Pope Paul VI created him a cardinal, recognizing his courageous defense of the faith and human rights.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To delve deeper into these early years, we recommend this video that summarizes his life:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Biography of John Paul II\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cb1yTWVjx4U?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"el-pontificado-que-cambio-la-historia\">John Paul II, a pontificate that changed lives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The election of a non-Italian cardinal surprised the world and marked the beginning of one of the longest and most significant pontificates in history, lasting 26 years, 5 months and 18 days. The <strong>most important dates of the pontificate of St. John Paul II<\/strong> are numerous and of great significance, some of which are highlighted below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>October 16, 1978:<\/strong> Cardinal Karol Wojty\u0142a is elected Pope. He chooses the name John Paul II. Becomes the first non-Italian pope in 455 years. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>May 13, 1981:<\/strong> suffers a serious attack in St. Peter's Square, when Mehmet Ali A\u011fca shoots him during an audience. John Paul II attributed his survival to the intercession of Our Lady of Fatima. If we translate this into kilometers: 1,247,613 kilometers, or 3.24 times the distance from the Earth to the Moon. Despite his physical limitations, he continued his mission to the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>April 2, 2005:<\/strong> dies in his rooms at the Vatican. Millions of faithful flock to Rome to bid him farewell in one of the most crowded funerals in history. The cry <em>Santo Subito<\/em> (Holy now!) resounded in St. Peter's Square.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>May 1, 2011:<\/strong> His successor, Pope Benedict XVI, beatified him in a multitudinous ceremony, recognizing his heroic virtues and a miracle attributed to his intercession.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>April 27, 2014:<\/strong> is canonized by Pope Francis in a historic ceremony together with another Pope, St. John XXIII.
